After emotionally walking away from The Hobbit, Guillermo del Toro has decided to set his sights on the games industry, telling MTV News "one of the things we're announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We're going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting".

Exactly who the "big company" is, is anyone's guess, though if I had to put my money on anyone, it would be Warner Bros. Interactive.

"It's not a development deal," he continued. "We're going to do it. We're doing them. And we're going to announce it soon enough."

Awesome.

Now if he'd only release the second part of the Strain novels!

This is the same guy who did Blade 2, the best of the blades in my opinion.

Awesome.

If you haven't seen "El laberinto del fauno" (aka, Pan's Labyrinth) you are missing out on some seriously awesome movie.

I thought Pan's Labyrinth was okay, not amazing. I was actually a bit disappointed, after hearing everyone rave on about it so much.

I loved it, in two parts, but hated it as a whole. I just found the real-world stuff awesome, but wanted it as a period-piece, while the fantasy stuff needed way more fleshing out, again meaning it would have been an awesome stand-alone movie - he should have made two separate films

It was hard to seperate the fantasy from the real-world story. But i agree, a movie on the Franco Spain would be awesome.

This is true. Also, hellboy is awesome.

Of the works by Guillermo del Toro that I have seen I have enjoyed the visuals, the narrative and the blending of the two.

I look forward to seeing and hearing about what types of games he is planning on bringing to the gaming table. We sure as hell are going to see some weird arse creatures in those games.

Well the last time del Toro opened his mouth about videogames he said
"I think BioShock's a rare one because it's actually a great story," he said. "Me? I don't want to make movies based on videogames, but BioShock's the one Oedipal, crazy kind of -- it's just got really good bones, and we're really trying to figure out a way to make it work."

Considering how many games I could name that have better stories than BioShock, if he truly thinks it's a rarity then I really don't have much confidence in his ability to know what makes a good game.

I dunno though, perhaps a lack of knowledge of other games isn't such a bad thing and might give him a bit of a different perspective to work from, as long as he's not a complete creative lead on the project and has plenty of people otherwise skilled in game development it could work out ok.

That was Gore Verbinski who said that, not Guillermo Del Toro.

Hehe, reckon. Shut down. That'll teach me to mix up strangely-named film directors. Could have at least ended the sentence with "you d*******" though :)

Pans was an ok film, but I don't really get all the hype about it. The Hellboy movies were pretty damn mediocre though.
