Today comes word that Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady's latest superhero outing, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has been delayed to February 2, 2024. Recently we got our first in-depth look at gameplay, and the reaction was lukewarm in how the game looked more like a looter shooter with microtransactions versus a successor to the Arkham trilogy.

This delay, though, looks to be all about polishing, with Rocksteady noting that the nine-month delay from May 26, 2023 is a "necessary decision to take the time needed to work on getting the game to be the best quality experience for players."

For those wondering if this is enough time to make fundamental changes to the game, namely shifting away from the live-service model and cosmetic Battle Pass focus, industry insider Jason Schreier notes that the time will be spent to polish the game and "not change it."

So yeah, it looks like the whole "Gear Score" quasi action-RPG setup will remain, alongside the "shoot the purple things" gameplay we saw earlier this year. Based on that first-look, our hype for the game has diminished somewhat, especially as huge fans of all things Arkham. The good news is that the game is likely to launch in a far better state than the performance mess that was last year's Gotham Knight.
