Hi,

As of tonight, my ADSL2+ service with TPG is up and running, and I've been fiddling around with my NetComm NB1 modem (shitty 1 port thingo) to get speed good...

Anywayz, I'm around 2-2.5Ks from exchange (its on Wynnum Rd), but I'm only getting a little over 6.5 mbps download speed! I apparently should get at least 8-10mpbs...

DSL Status: Connected
DSL Speed: 1023/6532kbps

Its setup with ADSL2Plus modulation, PPPoE authentication with my new @L2TP.tpg.com.au login info. I downloaded a few test files and it never went above 650-700kb/s :(

These are my connection stats atm:

Us Rate (Kbps) 1023
Ds Rate (Kbps) 6532
US Margin 8
DS Margin 6
Trained Modulation ADSL2Plus
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 34
US Line Attenuation 17
Peak Cell Rate 2412 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 25
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Interleaved

Am I missing something or is it just a shitty phone cable setup? I plan on getting a decent 4 port router/switch coz my bro wants to hook up Xbox Live (for 360). Also I've actually run a phone cable about 15 m down to my room under the house where my modem is sitting on my desk and so I'm going to have the new modem at the phone cable terminal and send an ethernet cable to my room instead. This *may* help with the phone cable crap..

Anyone had similar dissappointing speeds with ADSL2+?

3dee, turn off the modem plug it upstairs with a phone cable less than 2m and turn her on and check the sync speed then i think youll find a futher increase in speed.

to go off the problem you had with the mdoem does anyone know if the belkinj F5D8636-au4 would be slowing my connection?

im currently at
You are 1211 m from REDC as the crow flies.
Estimated cable length of 1877.05 m.
Estimated speed of 15000

when infact my sycn speed struggles to get 2.5megabit/s
i download around 200kb/s and my phone cable is 1.5m??

Billion is awesome. Anyone who uses a netgear or dlink or worse modem is missing out.

Billion is definitely good. You can get the 7300G for $85 from JMG with a new TPG account.

I recently hooked up to TPG in Yeronga and got the Dynalink 1025W as it comes highly reccomended. You can get cheap modems routers at JMG if you're signing up to TPG. I got the the 1025W for $65 + $12 shipping!

I only get ~450KB/s with my Dynalink 1025, I suspect the local lines are pretty old, though.

Make sure you set it to ADLS2+ and don't leave it on Auto for connection type.

I bought a 7300N last week and upgraded to ADSL2+ and decided to check my speed after reading this thread and discovered I was only getting about 11k because it had it connected with ADSL2 modulation instead of ADSL2+.

Getting 24k now :D
